DEREK MARINATOS GOALKEEPER ACADEMY
Dates: July 6 - 10Ages: Boys & Girls 9 - 17;
Tuition: $625(Senior Elite); $575(Senior Elite commuter); $460(Resident); $410(Resident commuter)
Objective: Derek Marinatos, (A License Coach) Assistant Coach at Furman University, member of the Boys Region III ODP Goalkeeper Staff, and U-21 Women's US National Team GK Coach, will direct the Goalkeepers during both Residential and Elite Camp Sessions. The DMGA camp's professional staff will train and mentor the goalkeepers and ensure that they maximize their potential and improve their skills before leaving the camp. Designed for the serious goalkeeper, this camp focuses on both the physical and the mental aspect of goalkeeping. Its goal is to enhance each player's technical, tactical, physical and psychological ability in order to become a more successful goalkeeper.
In addition to teaching the technical and tactical skills required by goalkeepers, DMGA also focuses on teaching the goalkeepers in activities performed in realistic game like environments to ensure that the goalkeepers understand when to apply the technical and tactical skills. In fact, many of the college bound goalkeepers will be playing in identification pool games over the course of the week in order to be seen by many of the other college coaches working the camp, as well as play in high level games.
On the first day of camp, after evaluating their skill levels, goalkeepers are placed in small groups and assigned a coach for the week. Although this coach is responsible for training the goalkeepers, other staff coaches will be involved in training them as well.
Last year was one of Furman's most competitive goalkeeper camp environments ever, as 45 goalkeepers attended the Elite Week (July 6-10). In addition to traditional goalkeeper training, DMGA does speed and agility training with QSA (Performance Enhancement), indoor training in raquetball courts, and has its own "JUGS" machine, which shoots soccer balls at high speeds (used for training specific Goalkeeper aspects).
